Aaron Boone's 2027 fate with the New York Yankees has been decided.
The New York Yankees' 2026 season didn't go as planned, with the team being bounced out in the American League Division Series against the rival Tampa Bay Rays.
With another early playoff exit for the Yankees, there have been calls for the team to fire manager Aaron Boone. But the Yankees have resisted this so far, and it seems that Boone will be back for next season.
Boone will be entering the final guaranteed year of his current contract, and 2027 will be a telling year for the veteran manager. New York seems to believe in Boone still, and he will be tasked with getting this team over the hump.
Despite the Yankees going out in the ALDS this year, the team has seen a lot of success under the leadership of Boone. New York was also playing without the services of star Aaron Judge against the Rays due to injury.
Judge missed a large chunk of the regular season due to injury, and Boone still had this team entering the playoffs as the top wild-card team. New York was able to withstand the injury to its star, with Boone guiding the team all season long.
Not having the slugger in the playoff series could have saved Boone's job for the next season, with the Yankees not able to fully judge the outcome. But Boone will be on thin ice next year, and changes could be made if the Yankees were to struggle out of the gates.
With 2027 potentially being the final year of Boone with the Yankees, there will need to be a sense of urgency from this group. The Yankees haven't won the World Series since the 2009 season, with only one appearance in the Fall Classic since.
As the manager of the Yankees, Boone has gone 790-565 over nine years with the team during the regular season. In the playoffs, New York has gone 27-30, making the postseason in eight of the nine years.
Boone hasn't been the main problem for the Yankees coming up short, especially in recent postseasons. But as the manager, he is going to get all the blame if the team doesn't win the World Series.
2027 will be a very telling year for this historic franchise, and there will be a lot of pressure on Boone coming into the season. But it will all depend on how the front office addresses the roster this offseason.
