The Milwaukee Brewers haven’t made a final decision on a trade for Freddy Peralta, but if they do move him, the return has to be something great, considering they’d be dealing a controllable, top-of-the-rotation arm.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, that price is high, and it’s exactly why the New York Yankees continue to make sense as a potential trade partner.

Rosenthal outlined several organizations with the prospect depth to at least get Milwaukee’s attention, and New York was right in the middle of that group.

“The Atlanta Braves (JR Ritchie), New York Yankees (Carlos Lagrange, Elmer Rodríguez), Boston Red Sox (Payton Tolle, Connelly Early) and Los Angeles Dodgers (River Ryan, Emmett Sheehan, Gavin Stone) are among the other clubs with the ability to entice the Brewers — again, assuming they are willing to make that type of move,” he wrote.

If I’m the Yankees, I’d make that trade if it costs me Carlos Lagrange and Elmer Rodriguez. I like what both of them could bring to the Yankees in the future, but the future is the future. The Yankees need to try to win right now.

Peralta is a rental, so I get the worries, but we’re talking about a starter who could come in and really put this team over the top. That’s the type of pitcher contenders pay for and it’s usually well worth it.

Lagrange and Rodriguez fit what Milwaukee typically targets in trades. Both are young, projectable arms and should fit in well for a team that’s always competitive.

From New York’s perspective, this is exactly the kind of move good teams make. The Yankees have a ton of pitching depth in the farm system, but prospects don’t win in October. I’ve said that plenty of times in recent years.

Peralta gives them a proven starter who can handle big moments and he’s proven that.

It feels like the Yankees are waiting on something to happen before making a trade, which could bring up some questions, but perhaps once the Cody Bellinger dust settles and they make another move or two, Peralta could be traded for.
