The New York Yankees have some decisions to make with their roster over the next couple of weeks before the postseason.
With the playoffs nearly here, the Yankees will have to finalize their playoff roster, and there are multiple players whose jobs could be in jeopardy at the moment. It's tough to get a feel for what the Yankees should and will do, but a guy like Spencer Jones is at the top of that list with a big-time question.
According to the latest from Chelsea Janes of SNY, however, it doesn't seem like there will be many questions about Jones remaining on the roster.
As crazy as that might sound with Aaron Judge returning, it feels like the right decision because he's been one of the better players in this lineup and offers some flexibility in different ways.
“I cannot see a world in which the Yankees do not have Jones on their roster down the stretch and into October. Yes, Aaron Judge creates a roster crunch, but I don’t anticipate Jones being the one pushed out. He has been too good, and is too much of a power threat, to take off the roster for the most important games of the season. And if he is on the roster, the Yankees will have to take another position player off.
"The Yankees’ general dearth of right-handed bats makes this complicated. I would assume Heliot Ramos remains on the roster as a pinch-hitter or platoon option in center against a tough lefty. So that means an infielder would have to go,” Chelsea Janes wrote.
Looking at what Jones has done throughout the season, he feels like a guy worthy enough to be on the roster.
There have obviously been some struggles at times, mainly with the strikeouts, as he struck out four times earlier in the week against the Los Angeles Angels. He has 80 strikeouts in 199 at-bats, but this is something that we already knew we were going to see from the young man when he made his debut. He's pretty much the player that the Yankees were hoping for, so I don't know why they wouldn't keep him on the roster.
