The New York Yankees have made a decision on general manager Brian Cashman.
The New York Yankees have made a decision on the future of general manager Brian Cashman with the organization.
During a conference call, Cashman revealed that he has agreed to a new contract to remain with the Yankees. The longtime front office executive will stay in New York, looking to help get this team back to the top of the mountain.
Cashman has been the general manager of the Yankees since 1998, with the team seeing all sorts of success under his watch. Since Cashman became the general manager, the Yankees have won four World Series titles.
But the last one came in 2009, and it has been a long drought since then. However, Cashman has built teams that have been overly competitive each season, giving the Yankees a chance to win the title each year.
Cashman has led the Yankees to win seven American League pennants during his time as general manager, with the last one coming in 2024. New York has been in the playoffs in 24 of the 29 seasons that Cashman has been the general manager.
Additionally, the Yankees have had a winning record in all 28 of Cashman's seasons leading the organization as the general manager. But in New York, World Series titles are the only thing that matter to the team.
The ownership is allowing Cashman and manager Aaron Boone to return next season, despite the team falling short in the playoffs again. The Yankees lost in the American League Division Series to the rival Tampa Bay Rays.
New York played the series without star Aaron Judge due to injury, which likely contributed to the outcome. But the fans of the Yankees have started to see their patience wear thin, with the team not dominating in the same manner over the last few decades.
Many have called for Cashman and Boone to both be let go, giving the Yankees some new life for the future. But for now, the team believes that this duo can get the job done, and they will be betting on this heading into the 2027 season.
If the Yankees were to fall short again, there could be changes made, namely at the managerial position. But Cashman has been around for a long time, and he knows that it's time to get this team back to winning titles.
The pressure will be on next season for everyone in the organization from the top down as New York tries to win its 28th World Series title.
