The New York Yankees like to keep things simple on all fronts, but that's certainly started to change over the past few years. Now, the Yankees have patches on their jerseys, allow facial hair, and have made other policy changes.
That's why the Yankees potentially using Navy jerseys on the road doesn't seem like much of a surprise. If anything, it actually sounds like some of the players really want that to happen.
“I think we’ll always wear the pinstripes at home,” Yankees captain Aaron Judge said, per MLB.com. “I don’t think that will change. But we changed our road jersey other years. So I guess if we wear the blues, we’ll wear the blues on the road.”
Giancarlo Stanton also voiced a similar opinion, adding that not only should the Yankees wear the Navy jerseys on the road and excite fans with some new things, but they should also have a City Connect jersey.
He recognizes that the Yankees are a historic franchise and there's something to be said about that, but at the end of the day, times have changed, and it's okay to get up with what the current era is doing.
“They’re always in our locker, but we don’t wear them,” Stanton said. “So why not? … It wouldn’t be the end of the world.”“I think we should do that, too,” Stanton said. “There’s a lot of tradition here. The most iconic jersey there is in sports, pretty much. But that doesn’t mean that every once in a while you can’t change something up.”
There hasn't been a decision made yet, so the Yankees will have to wait and see what happens. However, there's reason to believe that it will eventually happen, as fans now know, and it wouldn't be surprising to see them harp on this until it gets done.
“It’s 2026. A lot of teams have a lot of different uniforms,” skipper Aaron Boone said. “A decision will be made in some way, shape or form, but again, it’s something that has been loosely talked about from time to time for a couple of years now. So what comes of it? I’m not really sure.”
