There are just a handful of games left in the regular season and while the New York Yankees are still fighting for postseason position, it is never too early to start making plans for how to handle the most important time of the year.

The Yankees continue to battle in attempts to catch Toronto Blue Jays for the AL East crown. This means that the rotation needs all hands on deck to win game night in and night out. When the postseason rolls around, the same can be said but about the bullpen.

New York attempted to improve the bullpen at the trade deadline by making multiple moves. Right now, there are few arms that can be trusted. Could this lead to the Yankees making a move with their young stud?

Cam Schlittler has made 10 starts for the Yankees and has pitched to a 3.24 ERA. Prior to his last outing against the Blue Jays, which lasted just 1 2/3 innings, Schlittler held a 2.61 ERA. He has the  ability to hit triple digits on the radar gun and wipe away batters using his offspeed pitches.

In the postseason the rotation will get cut down and this means Schlittler could be used out of the bullpen -- either in a late-inning role or long man when needed.

The top two starters for the Yankees will be Max Fried and Carlos Rodon. This leaves the third spot up for grabs and Will Warren has done enough to be in consideration. He has made 30 starts and is 8-6 with a 4.22 ERA. If Warren mans the third slot in the rotation, this allows Schlittler to make the move.

The addition of Schlittler would give the Yankees a much-needed arm to rely on. Right now, you could make the argument that David Bednar and Luke Weaver, sometimes, are the only relievers you trust in a big spot. Coming into the season, Devin Williams was at the top of the list.

The Yankees acquired the big-name closer before the season began but he has been a major disappointment. Williams currently has a 5.50 ERA and has struggled since the early weeks of the season. Mark Leiter Jr. has also struggled while Camilo Doval has not been the same since being acquired from the San Francisco Giants at the deadline.

The Yankees knew that they did not have a bullpen equipped for a World Series run. After making additions in hopes of improving, it is unsure if that notion has changed. If Schlittler makes the move to the pen, that would make a big difference for the reigning American League champions.
