With just six games left in the season, the New York Yankees still have a (albeit slim) chance at winning the American League East.

Tuesday is the start of a three game series with the Chicago White Sox, whose season not only has been lost for a while, but also have been losers in eight out of their last nine games.

New York has only played Chicago in one series this season, which was at the end of August, where it took three games out of a four game series in the Windy City. Two of those games were blowouts, with the first two games being a 10-4 and 10-2 squashes.

Given the stakes, and knowing that the Yankees still have a chance at clinching the title, one has to think that manager Aaron Boone is ready to throw the kitchen sink during these final six games.

Wednesday night’s game will also involve pitcher Max Fried taking the mound against the White Sox. Fried was New York’s prized free agent signing over the offseason, and has certainly won Boone’s trust as the Yankee ace.

“I just love watching him pitch. He’s such a good athlete, and you see the athleticism on the mound — the different ways he can get you out…The type of person and teammate he is, he’s everything you’d want in bringing someone in to be a featured guy in your rotation,” Boone said on Fried.

Being two games back in the division isn’t as easy as it sounds, especially given how dominant the Toronto Blue Jays have been all season.

However, could it be that the Blue Jays are starting to slow down when it matters the most?

They’re coming off a solid 8-5 win against the Royals, but prior to that, Toronto had lost four in a row, including a pitiful 20-1 loss.

Of course, you would need to factor in that before the four game losing streak, Toronto had won its previous six.

But what if Toronto got hot too early, and that the Jays’ wings are getting tired of flapping at the most important part of the journey?

Along the way for the Blue Jays are the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays. Boston is already vying for a wild card spot, and the Jays had already split a four game series to Tampa last week.

One has to imagine that Boston is going to give everything it has. The Sox have been a bit of a disappointment down this stretch. They’ve traded wins and losses for the past month, and for the Yankees sake, they’re a bit of a wild card (no pun intended).

The Rays are in the ultimate driver’s seat, as they get an opportunity to play spoiler to a team that they’ve already dominated this season.

Tampa has a 7-3 record over Toronto this season, and two of those losses came in the aforementioned four-game series.

There is plenty of hope for the Yankees to clinch the division, and if it even gets to that point, we could have ourselves some entertaining baseball to close out the season.
