NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Driver David Starr joins The Racing Roundtable with his thoughts on Talladega, his plans for 2026, Tyler Reddick’s hot start and more
NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series driver David Starr joined NASCAR Roundtable publisher Tyler Jones, The Racing Experts founder Dominic Aragon, and ARCA Menards Series driver Matt Kemp on The Racing Roundtable this week.
Starr is set to make his debut for Young Motorsports this weekend at Talladega, where he will be piloting the No. 42 Chevrolet, where he will be starting in the 20th position.
After failing to qualify at Daytona, this will be 58 year-old’s first start of the season. Starr says that although he isn’t racing as much these days, he’s staying busy running the David Starr Team Texas High Performance Driving School at Texas Motor Speedway. He also didn’t rule out that we could see him run in the NASCAR Cup Series this season.
Starr has had some decent runs at Talladega in recent memory. In the fall race at the track in 2024, he finished 8th, while he ended up in the 18th position in last fall’s event.
In the interview on The Racing Roundtable, Starr expressed his excitement about Tyler Reddick’s hot start to the season, winning five of the first nine races of the year.
He said that non-race fans have approached him from all over asking about Reddick, as well as his team owner Michael Jordan, as Starr emphasized the impact that 23XI Racing is having beyond NASCAR.
Also on the program, Jones said he believes that Reddick is the difference-maker in why the No. 45 team has had a great start to the season.
There was a lot made about Kyle Busch’s recent comments about Denny Hamlin and what he said to FOX News’ Sean Hannity. Aragon isn’t giving up on Busch just yet, and believes he still has a lot left in the tank.
Meanwhile, Kemp expressed that he believes after Sunday’s exciting race at Kansas, that the track is now the best on the entire NASCAR Cup Series circuit.
The guys also discussed the idea of the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series potentially going to EVs. Starr and Jones both said they aren’t opposed to EVs coming to the sport, however it should be its own series, and not come at the expense of the NOAPS.
Plus, get the latest on this weekend’s action from Talladega, with a preview of the Jack Link’s 500.
