Philadelphia 76ers coach Nick Nurse reacted to Paul George's performance against the Washington Wizards postgame.
Star forward Paul George led the way for the Philadelphia 76ers in their Wednesday night victory over the Washington Wizards, 153-131.
George had his best performance with the 76ers, tallying 39 points, six assists, five rebounds, and three steals on 68.2% shooting and 6 of 12 shooting from three-point range in 30 minutes played. The 35-year-old truly looks like a different player since returning from his suspension, which is a huge positive for the 76ers as they continue to battle for postseason seeding.
Postgame, Philadelphia coach Nick Nurse reacted to George's monster performance.
"Obviously, I think he showed really good leadership by coming out and being aggressive and getting us going at the start, and then I think really the start of both halves he was just really, really good," Nurse said. "Great to see, I think variety too: got some drives, got some transition threes, got some one-on-one plays, variety, different places on the floor, but it's great. Great job by him to get us jumpstarted in both halves."
Nurse is spot on with his remark, as George recorded 14 points in the opening quarter and 15 points in the third quarter. He went scoreless in three minutes of action in the fourth, leaving him one point shy of 40.
The 76ers have a real chance to make noise in the playoffs if George continues to perform at an All-Star level on both ends of the floor. Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and V.J. Edgecombe are also firing on all cylinders at the perfect time with six games remaining in the regular season.
As of Thursday morning, the 76ers are the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference, closely trailing the Atlanta Hawks while the Toronto Raptors are right behind them.
Philadelphia's upcoming schedule is far from easy, so now more than ever, George needs to shine. It faces the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, the Detroit Pistons on Saturday, and the San Antonio Spurs on Monday.
