The Philadelphia 76ers (38-32) got back in the win column on Thursday night, defeating the Sacramento Kings (18-53) 139-118.
It was rookie guard V.J. Edgecombe who led the charge for Philadelphia, finishing with 38 points, 11 assists, seven rebounds, and two steals on 57.1% shooting and 3 of 7 shooting from three-point range in 39 minutes of action. This is the best individual performance of Edgecombe's career, trumping his NBA debut against the Boston Celtics.
Per Real App, "Edgecombe is the youngest shooting guard in NBA history to record 30+ PTS & 10+ AST."
Supporting Edgecombe in this victory were forward Justin Edwards and guard Quentin Grimes. The former recorded a season-high 32 points to go along with four assists and two steals on 61.1% shooting and 7 of 11 shooting from the arc in 33 minutes. The latter had yet another strong outing, tallying 27 points, seven assists, and five rebounds on 50% shooting.
Grimes continues to step up in the absence of the 'Big Three' of Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Paul George. It's worth noting George is nearing his March 25 return date while Embiid is seemingly inching closer to coming back.
The frontcourt also played quite well against the Kings, as Andre Drummond had 13 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks while Adem Bona scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Power forward Dominick Barlow concluded with 12 points and eight rebounds.
For the Kings, it was center Maxime Raynaud who shined. He ended with 30 points, four rebounds, and two assists on 64.7% shooting. Sacramento got subpar play out of their healthy stars, DeMar DeRozan and Russell Westbrook, who combined for just 24 points. They were without Domantas Sabonis and Zach LaVine for this game.
The Kings' second-leading scorer was Daeqwon Plowden, who scored 20 points on 7 of 13 shooting in 31 minutes played.
Philadelphia returns to action on Saturday night at 9:30 PM ET to face the injury-riddled Utah Jazz (21-49).
