The Philadelphia 76ers were named a destination for a two-time NBA champion on the buyout market to support Joel Embiid.
When Joel Embiid is unable to suit up, the Philadelphia 76ers are left with veteran Andre Drummond and second-year big man Adem Bona to hold down the center position.
Drummond, age 32, remains a solid interior presence on both ends of the floor, averaging 6.9 points and 8.6 rebounds on 50.2% shooting. Bona is a more athletic option for coach Nick Nurse to roll with, recording 4.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, the power forward position is held down by Dominick Barlow, who was recently converted to a standard NBA contract.
The point in mentioning all of this is it's clear Philadelphia could benefit from bringing in another frontcourt piece via the buyout market.
Chris Boucher Named Buyout Candidate For 76ers
The Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey named two-time NBA champion Chris Boucher as a buyout candidate for the 76ers.
"Among the buyout-market candidates are power forward Chris Boucher, point guard Lonzo Ball, forward Haywood Highsmith, and wing Khris Middleton, if he is waived by the Dallas Mavericks," Pompey wrote.
It's worth noting Highsmith has since signed with the Phoenix Suns, so he's no longer an option for Philadelphia.
Boucher struggled to carve out a role in his first season with the Boston Celtics, recording just 2.3 points and 2.0 rebounds per game on 32% shooting in nine appearances. As a result of this, he and a second-round pick were dealt to the Utah Jazz at this year's trade deadline in exchange for two-way player John Tonje. The Jazz didn't wait long before waiving Boucher.
Boucher thrived during his seven-year tenure with the Toronto Raptors despite being a post player at 6-foot-8. He averaged 13.6 points and 6.7 rebounds on 51.4% shooting in his best season with the Raptors. The 33-year-old also has a strong level of familiarity with 76ers coach Nick Nurse, as he played under him for five seasons in Toronto.
Another appealing aspect of Boucher's game is his ability to stretch the floor, which is an attribute Bona does not possess. Boucher knocked down 36.3% of his three-point shots on 3.9 attempts per game in the 2024-2025 season.
The 76ers need Embiid as healthy as possible for the playoffs, so bringing in more support for him is never a bad idea.
