Golden State Warriors legend Draymond Green shared his opinion on the Boston Celtics trading Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Jaylen Brown to Philadelphia 76ers trade is arguably the most surprising move of the NBA offseason so far.
So, it should not come as a surprise that fans and players are flooding social media with their opinions of the blockbuster. Most agree the 76ers fleeced the Boston Celtics in this deal, including four-time NBA champion Draymond Green.
Green, on his podcast, shared his thoughts on Brown compared to Paul George, who is now a member of the Celtics.
"No disrespect to Paul George, but this isn’t an even swap," Green said. "I got a lot of love for PG, but like myself, PG is 36 years old... I’m going into year 15. I think PG is going into year 17."
Green continued, "And Jaylen Brown, not even 30 years old. He’s 29 years old, and he’s going into year 11. So, and by the way, he won finals MVP two years ago. I think he just made All-NBA second team this year. [He] was arguably, controversially, possibly could have been a first-team performer, but the votes are what they are. So it’s not an even swap. Like when you’re talking just player for player, it’s not."
Green is spot-on with his opinion. The reason draft capital is included by the 76ers is because Brown is viewed as the superior player.
The former Celtics superstar averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists on 47.7% shooting and 34.7% shooting from three-point range in 71 games last season. Meanwhile, George recorded 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game on 43.9% shooting and 39.2% shooting from three-point range in 37 appearances.
And as Green mentioned, George is roughly seven years older than Brown.
There's a reason discussions have started about LeBron James potentially joining the 76ers. It's because the addition of Brown while only losing George vaults Philadelphia among serious championship contenders. Prior to acquiring Brown, the 76ers were never mentioned as a suitor for James.
So, if the Sixers successfully create a terrifying starting lineup with James, Mike Gansey's lopsided trade for Brown undoubtedly deserves even more credit.
