Derek Fisher commends Jaylen Brown as the catalyst for all the moves Philadelphia was able to make this offseason. Without him, they may have never acquired LeBron James.
The starters for the Philadelphia 76ers have been the talk of the town. When they added Jaylen Brown and LeBron James, it was expected for them to be at the top of everybody’s list. One Hall of Famer believes none of this would be possible if it weren’t for the Brown-Paul George trade.
Derek Fisher mentioned how he doesn't foresee James going there if it weren’t for the acquisition of Brown. Not only that, but he even mentioned that without Brown, there’s no chance that this team would even be a thought for winning a title.
“I don’t think he would’ve gone if they didn’t have Jaylen Brown," Fisher said. "Right now if you’re a veteran guy that’s looking for an opportunity to be on a championship-contending team. An addition like Jaylen Brown to where Philly already was put them in that short list of teams.”
Fisher has a point; Brown makes a huge difference when you want to win and win now. For James, coming from a place like Los Angeles, where the only goal was winning, makes the decision that much harder. The thing that forced James to leave wasn’t the lack of winning; it was all the behind-the-scenes chaos that was going on. With Brown being in Philadelphia and pushing for James to come join, it made the decision much easier.
Brown’s presence is going to be a major impact for this team. Many have noticed that while James is the face of the team, it’s all going to fall to Brown to make sure it works. His youthful style of play is going to be the very thing that drives the team either to the top or down to obscurity.
What he does on the court is important, but the thought of him voicing his opinion may be the biggest attribute of all. Never mind his own personal off-court opinions; when he is on that floor, it's about him and his teammates. Philadelphia has to rely on Brown to do what made him a hot commodity in the trading block: be relentless.
Show everyone why James came to play with him. Be that guy that carries the Boston Celtics to the playoffs and scores at will. If he can do that with James finding open guys, they’ll both know that they made the right decision.
It won’t take long for these two to be the leaders Philadelphia needs, and once that happens, it’ll be like putting the plane on autopilot, smooth sailing to the playoffs.
