Philadelphia 76ers center Andre Drummond speaks on the flopping problem around the NBA.
Tanking is the latest problem the NBA is attempting to solve, but there are still other issues the league is facing.
One that bothers many fans is flopping. It's not only those who watch the games that are affected by this, but the players as well. This includes Philadelphia 76ers center Andre Drummond, who spoke on the problem on a livestream with famous creator N3on.
"I don't like that kind of stuff... Everybody does it," Drummond said. "I even catch myself doing it sometimes... 'What am I doing... This not even me’... I’m a product of my environment. If they get away with it, I gotta try to get away with it."
Drummond should be the last player receiving criticism for flopping. He's a physical 6-foot-11, nearly 280-pound center who dominates the glass on both ends of the floor.
Yet, him admitting to doing it highlights how serious of a problem this is for the NBA. He is forced to adapt to an unethical style of basketball just because others are succeeding from it. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and James Harden are widely viewed as the "poster children" of flopping, especially the Oklahoma City Thunder two-time MVP.
In the 2025-2026 regular season, Lakers superstar Luka Doncic attempted the most free throws per game with 10.1. Following closely behind are Portland Trail Blazers' Deni Avdija (9.2) and Gilgeous-Alexander (9.0).
Many experienced how unenjoyable watching the league can be due to flopping during the Thunder vs. Los Angeles Lakers first-round series. Social media was flooded with complaints about Gilgeous-Alexander and others' antics throughout the sweep by Oklahoma City.
Drummond bringing attention to this dilemma may encourage the league office to act sooner than expected. What exactly can be done to solve this issue is hard to say.
