The Philadelphia 76ers could fill the roster hole left by Jared McCain by bringing in a guard who was moved at the trade deadline.
The Philadelphia 76ers' decision to move on from sophomore guard Jared McCain at this year's trade deadline is not paying off thus far.
Just four games into his tenure with the Oklahoma City Thunder, McCain is already making his impact felt. He recorded 13 points and three rebounds in a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Feb. 12.
Meanwhile, the 76ers' lack of backcourt depth following the McCain trade was exposed because backup guard Quentin Grimes missed two games with an illness. Grimes' absence forced coach Nick Nurse to play veteran Kyle Lowry and Trendon Watford meaningful backcourt minutes.
It's abundantly clear the 76ers could benefit from adding another guard to the mix prior to the postseason, which is where the buyout market comes in. Sixers Wire listed Atlanta Hawks guard Gabe Vincent as a buyout candidate for Philadelphia.
Vincent has not yet been bought out by the Hawks but is in the final season of a three-year, $33 million contract, so it's entirely possible they decide to do so. If Vincent hits the open market, the 76ers should express interest.
Although Vincent could never find a consistent rhythm in his two and a half seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, he was still a serviceable backup. In his best season with the Lakers, the 29-year-old averaged 6.4 points and 1.4 assists on 40% shooting and 35.3% shooting from three-point range in 72 appearances.
His best years, however, came with the Miami Heat, as Vincent was an integral part of the team's 2023 NBA Finals run. During that playoff run, he averaged 12.7 points and 3.5 assists on 40.2% shooting. This 22-game postseason stretch is what earned him such a lucrative deal from the Lakers.
The addition of Vincent likely won't cure the frustration of Sixers fans who are still missing McCain, nor does the Hawks guard hold the same level of potential as the 21-year-old.
However, he would help prevent Philadelphia's backcourt depth problem from being exposed again.
