The Philadelphia 76ers could sign an NBA champion wing to bolster their forward room this offseason.
The Philadelphia 76ers could use some extra help on the wing to support veteran star Paul George.
Justin Edwards is the primary backup small forward as it stands because Kelly Oubre Jr. is an unrestricted free agent. Even if Oubre were re-signed, adding another forward to the mix would be ideal for Philadelphia's rotation.
One option floated by Bleacher Report is NBA champion and three-time All-Star Khris Middleton.
"Neither Middleton nor Landale would require Philadelphia to use the full mid-level, but they could address shortages at the wing and backup center, respectively," B/R's Grant Hughes wrote.
Middleton is no longer the player he once was with the Milwaukee Bucks. During his prime, the 34-year-old averaged more than 20 points on impressive shooting splits.
Although Middleton isn't at that level anymore, he proved in the 2025-2026 campaign that he can still contribute. He split the season between two rebuilding teams in the Washington Wizards and Dallas Mavericks, averaging 10.2 points on 42.0% shooting and 36.0% shooting from three-point range in 63 games.
His defense used to be a highlight of his skillset as well, but he has slowed down on that end of the floor in recent years. Still, he is by no means a liability.
Before retirement, he's undoubtedly looking to add another ring to his resume. Philadelphia may not be a top title contender in the Eastern Conference, but it could certainly offer him a fair contract while presenting him an opportunity to compete. Depending on if Oubre is brought back, Middleton can either slot into the starting small forward position or act as the backup '3.'
It's possible the 76ers will face competition from the Miami Heat and others to sign Middleton, as rumors are spreading about him reuniting with former teammate Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Even though adding another forward, possibly Middleton, would be convenient for the Sixers, the priority needs to be retaining Oubre and Quentin Grimes while shoring up the center position behind Joel Embiid.
