Philadelphia 76ers guard Quentin Grimes has been named the top free agent target for the Brooklyn Nets.
The Philadelphia 76ers backcourt is still filled with talent even after trading Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Leading the guard room is MVP-caliber guard Tyrese Maxey, who is supported by rookie phenom V.J. Edgecombe and established star Quentin Grimes. After dealing McCain, the goal is undoubtedly to retain Grimes in free agency this summer, but it appears Philadelphia could face steep competition to bring back the 25-year-old.
Bleacher Report recently named Grimes as the top free agent target for the rebuilding Brooklyn Nets.
"Quentin Grimes could certainly help the Nets play competent basketball in 2026-27, especially after his post-deadline work with the Sixers in 2024 showed he could produce big numbers in a scaled-up role," B/R's Grant Hughes wrote.
As Hughes mentioned, the hope for the Nets would be for Grimes to return to the 2024-2025 version of himself. In a span of 28 games for the Sixers that season, he averaged 21.9 points on 46.9% shooting.
Hughes continued, "The Nets certainly shouldn't toss all their cap space (estimated at $36-44 million) at Grimes, but he can help them win a few more games while juicing his value for an eventual future-focused trade."
Grimes, while still effective, has taken a major step back this season in a reserve role for Philadelphia. He is averaging 12.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists on 43.9% shooting and 34.1% shooting from three-point range in 48 appearances. He has not recorded more than 20 points since Dec. 5 against the Milwaukee Bucks.
The hope for the Sixers was Grimes would still act as their X-factor even coming off the bench, but that title deservingly belongs to forward Kelly Oubre Jr.
Brooklyn is an incredibly young team, as their backcourt is led by three rookies in Egor Demin, Nolan Traore, and Ben Saraf. Grimes would instantly become the leader of the guard room, acting as a mentor to these players while simultaneously boosting his trade value for the Nets.
It's tough to imagine Grimes would remain in Brooklyn long-term, but he could certainly land the massive payday he's seeking from them.
