Jaylen Brown competed in an unsanctioned boxing match. An activity that could have cost him an NBA contract.

An NBA star has officially made his way to the ring.

No, seriously, the Philadelphia 76ers star is now a boxer in his spare time.

Videos started circulating that Jaylen Brown had a boxing match, and it was as you expected. You know, maybe some franchises don’t care what you do in your spare time, but it’s no doubt the 76ers do. Especially if it’s going to impact the entire team, they’ll have something to say. Seeing Brown actually have a boxing match and mouths dropped and a front office sweating for dear life. Brown’s match was an unsanctioned contest, which actually makes matters worse.

How can Brown explain this to his team had he gotten injured? This is the kind of thing that no team wants to deal with. Furthermore, had it been a long-term injury, he would’ve aided in the constant narrative that the 76ers are a cursed franchise that do nothing but harbor injured players.

As a player who’s vital to the team's success, it seems pretty stupid to risk it all for one night of fun. The season starts in a little over a month; it’s just plain reckless. Brown is going to be the most important player on the team. If he were to go out, it would shift the offense entirely.

It means LeBron James and Joel Embiid have to play extra minutes, something the team wants to avoid. The small glimmer of hope from all these is extended touches for VJ Edgecombe. While Edgecombe improves the line changes. James won’t be able to run the point, and it falls back into the hands of Tyrese Maxey.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing; it’s just inconvenient to start the season. While the 76ers did improve their bench, it surely wasn’t to have backups play starter minutes. Their defensive lineups would take a huge hit as well. Brown would essentially be guarding the best player on the floor. If he were out, it would fall on another player, and truthfully there's no telling who that might be.

Trading for Brown didn’t include him going off to participate in these kinds of extracurricular activities. Actions like this, while they are fun, can cause more criticism before the season even starts. This is going to be a wild season, something Philadelphia should be used to.

When Brown returns to the team, some may not concern themselves with it, while others are going to have plenty to say, and Brown still may follow his own rules.
