The Philadelphia 76ers could look to acquire a Western Conference forward in a major trade deadline move to support veteran All-Star Paul George.
The Philadelphia 76ers' forward room is led by veteran All-Star Paul George, who has greatly regressed during his two seasons with the team.
George is averaging 15.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.3 steals on 41.8% shooting and 37% shooting from three-point range in 23 games played. Behind him are Kelly Oubre Jr. and Jabari Walker, while the power forward position is run by Dominick Barlow and Trendon Watford.
It's clear adding some depth prior to February's trade deadline could be of great benefit for Philadelphia.
76ers Predicted To Trade for Naji Marshall
Although the 76ers lack highly valuable assets, they have a few moveable contracts and a plethora of second-round picks to work with.
PhillyVoice's Adam Aaronson predicts the Sixers could trade for Dallas Mavericks forward Naji Marshall, who would be a near-flawless fit in Philadelphia.
"Naji Marshall of the Dallas Mavericks is a terrific fit for what the Sixers need; he would give them some stability at both forward spots and instantly be the leader in the forward clubhouse to close games next to George," Aaronson wrote. "Dallas will certainly be asking for a first-round pick for Marshall, who makes $9 million this season and will make $9.4 million next year."
A few other names mentioned by Aaronson as trade candidates are Derrick Jones Jr., Saddiq Bey, and Haywood Highsmith.
Marshall had a breakout 2024-2025 campaign and is performing even better this season. He is averaging 14.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists on 54% shooting and 30.5% shooting from three-point range in 44 appearances, while also acting as a lockdown defender in Dallas. He has two seasons remaining on his three-year, $27 million contract.
Aaronson continued, "The Sixers are probably not in a position to meet that price, but they have the ability to pounce if that market does not progress to the spot Dallas wants it at: the Mavericks have only two second-round picks over the next seven drafts, while the Sixers have an abundance of them. Perhaps the Sixers can use quantity, not quality, to get a deal across the finish line."
At age 27, Marshall simply does not fit what the Mavericks should be trying to do, which is build around No. 1 pick and rookie phenom Cooper Flagg. He is much better suited being dealt to a playoff contender at the trade deadline.
The 76ers packaging Oubre Jr., Drummond, and a handful of second-round picks may get the job done.
