One of the Philadelphia 76ers' competitors to sign LeBron James is ramping up their efforts.
The Philadelphia 76ers' free agency pursuit of LeBron James just got more complicated.
There are a plethora of landing spots for the 22-time All-Star, but one serious destination is reportedly intensifying their efforts to sign him. The Minnesota Timberwolves, led by Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball, are ramping up their efforts to sign James, per The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski.
"The Minnesota Timberwolves have ramped up their push for LeBron James... The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe ongoing deliberations, said the Timberwolves have been in contact with James’ representatives with a bold pitch," Krawczynski wrote. "Team up with Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert to go after the kind of championship that could end any discussion about who is the greatest player of all time."
Krawczynski continued, "The Wolves firmly believe they have the best situation for the 41-year-old James as he prepares for his 24th season."
This is bad news for the 76ers, as the Timberwolves could absolutely steal James away from potentially signing with Philadelphia. Minnesota has never won a championship, is home to a top-10 player in Edwards, and has strong complementary pieces who contribute on both ends of the floor.
These are all compelling arguments that could convince James to sign with the Timberwolves rather than the Sixers.
Still, the 76ers have convincing points of their own.
They made a splashy move for All-NBA wing Jaylen Brown, have an open starting spot at power forward, are home to Tyrese Maxey (another Klutch Sports agency client), have been linked to James in the past, and are not in need of another offensive engine but rather a strong playmaker like James.
Although the Timberwolves' ramped-up efforts to land James complicate the chances of Philadelphia signing him, the 76ers have plenty of selling points too.
