The Philadelphia 76ers are bringing in ex-Cleveland Cavaliers forward Dean Wade on a four-year contract.
The hiring of President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey is already paying off for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Gansey's first major move was selecting Labaron Philon Jr. in the 2026 NBA Draft, but his second significant acquisition is benefiting from his previous ties to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The 76ers are signing former Cavaliers forward Dean Wade to a four-year, $39 million contract, per ESPN's Shams Charania.
"Free agent forward Dean Wade has agreed to a four-year, $39 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, sources tell ESPN," Charania posted to X. "Several contenders pursued the former Cavaliers forward, who has become an indispensable defending and shooting frontcourt piece."
Charania continued, "76ers officials finalized negotiations tonight with Wade’s agents, Adam Papas and Austin Walton of NEXT Sports. Seven years ago, Wade went undrafted out of Kansas State and broke in on a two-way -- before earning a standard deal, then an extension and now a lucrative new free-agent deal."
Wade is a huge acquisition for the Sixers. A team in desperate need of size and shooting, Philadelphia lands both in the 29-year-old. He averaged 5.8 points and 4.2 rebounds on 43.9% shooting and 36.2% shooting from three-point range in 59 games for the Cavaliers last season.
Chances are Wade will slot into the 76ers' starting lineup alongside guards Tyrese Maxey and V.J. Edgecombe, forward Paul George, and center Joel Embiid.
Because of this move, the "Sixers will be hard-capped at the first apron as a result of using the non-taxpayer’s mid-level exception," per Adam Aaronson.
Rumors are spreading swiftly that guard Quentin Grimes will not be returning to the 76ers, so the front office's attention needs to turn to bringing in another guard.
