Joel Embiid came to media day with one thing in mind, which is proving he is ready for a championship.
Philadelphia 76ers' Joel Embiid showed up to media day, and for what it’s worth, the big fella looks to be in great shape.
He looks more lean and ready to go for the start of the season. With this kind of enthusiasm, it's no wonder he feels that this could be the year to win a championship. In his interview, Embiid talked about what it would mean to win a championship and how it would mean “everything” to him.
Embiid feels he has accomplished everything there is to accomplish outside of winning championships. It’s not just that he wants to win for himself but for the city of Philadelphia and all those who stood behind him when he dealt with his injuries. Embiid even brought up all that he’s been through with the team. From old burner accounts to players quitting on the team.
The fans have backed Embiid; even though there were fans who wanted him gone, he still persevered and proved his worth ten times over. Now, he has real help with LeBron James and Jaylen Brown on the roster. James even said Embiid deserved to win one, and it's his mission to help with that any way he can.
Brown was brought here through trade. Despite all this, he loves being in Philadelphia, and he will have a chip on his shoulder that he should have been the one to stay in Boston. Now, these may not have been his words, but they're fuel to add to the fire. These two newcomers are a jolt of life to this franchise. Embiid has had plenty of questions to answer this season. Can he stay healthy? Will the team have enough to get past the second round? And a personal favorite, where has Embiid been during these workout videos?
Now, after seeing the new physique and hearing his determination, all the questions they could possibly think of have been answered by just one appearance at Media Day. Now, this isn’t the peak; in fact, it’s not even the beginning. This is just the pre-trials before the real grunt work begins. Embiid has fully committed to this season, and it’s easy to see why.
There are two starters that have won championships in their career, and now they have joined forces with one of the best centers to play the game. This season isn’t just for one player; it’s for a starving city that has stood behind their favorite sports team for quite some time. Now, it just may have been worth the while if this team can do what this team is capable of.
