The Minnesota Timberwolves' franchise cornerstone has seemingly lost hope that LeBron James will sign with them.
The Minnesota Timberwolves' franchise cornerstone appears to be throwing in the towel on the LeBron James free agency sweepstakes.
Anthony Edwards was asked, "Now the big question this week, of course, is LeBron. What's your reaction to the idea that the Timberwolves are on that short list every time it's being discussed?"
To which he responded, “I have nothing to say about it because I’ve seen his top 3 teams, we’re not in it so."
This should only further fuel the Philadelphia 76ers' hopes of landing the 22-time All-Star, as the Timberwolves were previously viewed as a serious contender to land him.
The report Edwards is referencing comes from ESPN's Shams Charania.
"A focus on Cleveland, Miami, and Philadelphia," Charania said. "He wants to be part of a team where he has a chance to compete for a championship, a new team environment, and a culture he can be a part of."
It's worth noting Charania never ruled out the Timberwolves, but it's clear Edwards has lost the hope that James is teaming up with him and LaMelo Ball in Minnesota.
Each team still in the race for the four-time champion has its advantages and disadvantages. The biggest positive Philadelphia has is the obvious opportunity to compete for championship No. 5.
A starting lineup of Tyrese Maxey, V.J. Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, James, and Joel Embiid could bulldoze its way through the Eastern Conference, assuming this star-studded lineup meshes properly. There is also still concern about Embiid's health.
The only true negative about the Sixers is the feeling of unfamiliarity. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat can offer an appealing reunion while Philadelphia would be a new home for James.
Minnesota shares similar ups and downs to the 76ers, but Edwards giving up on the recruitment process is a terrible sign for Timberwolves fans. However, it breathes new life into the 76ers fanbase hoping to be lucky enough to sign the 41-year-old forward.
