Former Los Angeles Lakers superstar forward LeBron James is signing with the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Philadelphia 76ers are making another splash move.
After acquiring All-NBA wing Jaylen Brown in a trade with the Boston Celtics, the 76ers are signing former Los Angeles Lakers forward and 22-time All-Star LeBron James, per ESPN's Shams Charania.
James and the 76ers have agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract.
"BREAKING: LeBron James is signing with the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year, $8 million deal with a player option, Klutch Sports Group and Klutch CEO and Game Over show host Rich Paul tells ESPN.” Charania posted to X.
Philadelphia should be viewed as the unanimous title favorite even over the reigning champion New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs, and Oklahoma City Thunder.
A starting lineup of Tyrese Maxey, V.J. Edgecombe, Brown, James, and Joel Embiid is unmatched by any team across the association. Embiid's health, however, will continue to play a major role in the outcome of Philadelphia's success.
But, even without the 2023 MVP at full strength, this is still an incredibly strong roster.
James remains an All-Star-caliber player despite being 41 years old. He averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds on 51.5% shooting in 60 games for the Lakers last season. He may be slowing down a bit on the defensive end, but it shouldn't matter in the loaded Sixers lineup.
Maxey made All-NBA Third Team in the 2025-2026 campaign, Edgecombe is gearing up for what many hope is a breakout sophomore campaign, and Brown was an MVP candidate last season.
Just this past season the 76ers were swept by the Knicks in the second round, and now, with the additions of James, Brown, and others, most are viewing them as the obvious choice to hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy at next season's end.
Eight years after he was originally linked to the 76ers in 2018, 'King James' comes to Philadelphia to finish out his illustrious career... hopefully with his fifth ring.
