Have you ever visited a place and felt it was fun while you were there, but you don’t need to go back?
That’s probably how LeBron James felt when it was time to decide on where he wanted to play. James had a choice between the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, and Philadelphia 76ers.
We all know where he chose to go. But now the question of why comes into play. Four-time NBA champion Draymond Green shares his take on what that reason actually is. Green spoke on his podcast and believed James made the decision based on past experiences.
Green explained that when it came down to Miami and Cleveland, James had already been there and done that, so what was the point in trying again for a third time? As far as Golden State, Green believes there was too much history between the two for him to feel comfortable going to the storied franchise.
It’s hard to argue against the logic. Besides, had James gone to the Warriors, he would have had a turbulent year considering the roster moves along with the media scrutiny he’s currently facing now. If he had gone to the Warriors, there would be plenty of people bashing him for going to a team that he has a checkered past with. Not to mention how massive the Kevin Durant comparison would be about playing with Stephen Curry.

Green has always had his share of outlandish takes, but this one isn’t that far off. Miami’s roster is depleted and would rely on James and Giannis Antetokounmpo to do the heavy lifting. We already saw how Antetokounmpo doesn’t like to share the spotlight when he is paired with Damian Lillard.
Cleveland is the opposite. Their roster is a little crowded with James Harden and Donovan Mitchell in the mix. Two ball-dominant players is a recipe for disaster for someone like James. Philadelphia had the best balance for James. A nice mix of scoring and playmaking allows for someone of James’ caliber to help push the team to the next level.
A team is only as good as the roster that’s put in place. For James and the Sixers, having four All-Stars in your starting lineup makes the decision a no-brainer.
