After mocking his former team’s playoff struggles, Tobias Harris watched his postseason jab backfire as both squads suffered identical exits, giving Philadelphia 76ers fans the last laugh.

Tobias Harris gave Philadelphia 76ers fans an easy punchline in April.

After the Detroit Pistons beat the Sixers, Harris was caught directing a message toward the Philadelphia crowd: “Get ready for the [expletive] play-in.”

At the time, it landed because Detroit was enjoying one of the best seasons in the league, while Philadelphia was still trying to fight through injuries, inconsistency, and the pressure of having to fight their way into the playoffs through the Play-In Tournament.

Harris had also just scored 19 points along with four rebounds and four steals in a 23-point Pistons win, giving him the perfect moment to talk back to the fanbase that had criticized him for years.

The bad blood made sense.

Harris spent nearly six years in Philadelphia, where his contract often overshadowed his actual production. He was a solid player for the Sixers, but he was paid like someone who needed to be a star. Fans remembered the quiet playoff nights, especially his scoreless Game 7 against Boston in 2023, where he faced serious ridicule, and Harris clearly heard plenty of it. So when he had the chance to remind Philadelphia that Detroit was on top and the Sixers were fighting for survival, he took it.

Harris’ own postseason was solid in stretches, but not strong enough to escape the jokes. In Game 4 against Cleveland, he scored 16 points as Detroit blew a halftime lead thanks to Donovan Mitchell’s heroics. The all-star guard scored a stunning 39 points in the second half to spearhead a comeback.

That does not erase Detroit’s progress. The Pistons were a real success story this season, and Harris gave them veteran stability and solid three-level scoring. But his Philadelphia comment would always follow him if Detroit failed to go further than the team he mocked.

In the end, both teams lost in the second round. The Sixers had their own problems, but Harris’ jab still backfired. For Philadelphia fans, that is probably enough.
