What will happen if Philadelphia can't win the big one. There may be some star players out the door if that happens.
There’s something to be said about a team who has it all. The funny thing is, no team has it all. It’s always changes that can be made to give a team its best chance to win.
The Philadelphia 76ers are a team many feel has what it takes to win it all. So what happens if the expectations aren’t met? There has to be a sense that the team has to be blown up. The two-year window may not even be two years. It’s really dependent on NBA Champion small forward LeBron James.
If James decides to leave, the team has to pivot to star forward Jaylen Brown. Not only that but there is a huge belief in guard Tyrese Maxey and what he brings to the team. The biggest question mark will be center Joel Embiid. Even if James comes back for a second year, it’s still no guarantee it’ll lead to a championship.
If nothing comes of it, it's going to be bye-bye, Embiid. It’ll all depend on what the team is lacking. Will it be playmaking? Rebounding? Maybe even a lack of shooting from the bench?
The fact of the matter is that there’s going to be a major turnaround when it’s all said and done. The team will surely look at players at the trade deadline. After that first year there are a few players the team could look to go after.
Players like Lu Dort, Tyler Herro, and Zach Lavine could all be potential free agents in 2027. Any one of these players would be a good addition to the team. It may require some financial finesse, but it’s very possible. Someone like Dort would be perfect for this team. He’s a defensive-minded player that would bring a level of toughness that could be good for Philadelphia.
RJ Barrett is another potential free agent that would fit. He doesn’t need to have the ball in his hands to be effective. If the team were to let Embiid go after the first year, Rudy Gobert would be someone that could help in the rebounding department. You may lose that offensive presence, but with Maxey and Brown it could even things out.
Whenever someone feels that they’ve done enough, it’s always an opportunity to be more. If the 76ers can’t get the job done, look to see a brand new Philadelphia team, and there will be a few hot seats in the city of Philadelphia.
