After being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers, Jaylen Brown couldn't contain himself.
“When I first got traded, I threw my phone across the room.”
These were the words spoken by Jaylen Brown at his introductory press conference with the Philadelphia 76ers.
That is a bit of an interesting reaction when you find out you’ve been traded to a team looking to lapse his former team, the Boston Celtics. It could have been a reaction of pure joy having finally been released from the shackles of the Boston Celtics and the “will they, won’t they” talk about him and Jayson Tatum. Maybe it was done in frustration of having to go to a rival team that he felt may have been inferior to his previous team.
Tyrese Maxey being the first person to reach out to him after the trade is very telling. It shows that this is a team willing to get to work as soon as possible. The team wants its players to communicate with one another, and this is a promising start.
Since the trade, it’s clear that it was a win for Philadelphia. The youth movement seems to be in full effect, as three of your five starters are under the age of 30. Brown is in the prime of his career, and even though he won a championship in Boston, he wasn’t going to get the respect he deserved. There won’t be much media chatter on whether he should delegate to another player.
Being in Philadelphia, he’ll have full reign of the team. Yes, there’s Joel Embiid in the frontcourt and Maxey in the backcourt, but it better suits his style of play.
Brown is a shot-creator, meaning he has to have the ball to be effective. This could pose as a challenge since he’s not used to playing without the ball. The one thing we do know is he can score the basketball. He’s not a one-dimensional player who can only shoot. Brown had an efficiency rating of 21.9 in the 2025-2026 season. This speaks to his ability to do more for the team. It shows that he’s able to make the right decision when the time comes.
It’s clear that Brown will embed himself into the city of Philadelphia. He held his press conference in the Southwest area. Brown has always been very outspoken in his beliefs, and this is a city that will let him do that with no hesitation. The trick is he has to be playing at a high level, or this city will turn on him rather quickly.
