Former Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain is making his feelings known about being traded out of Philly.
The second-year guard, drafted with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, was dealt to the Oklahoma City Thunder at the NBA trade deadline. The move caught many by surprise, as McCain had emerged as a popular player amongst the 76ers fanbase.
While streaming with popular content creator Plaqueboy Max, McCain shared a song he made alongside the streamer. On the track, McCain appeared to take a shot at his former team, expressing his emotion throughout a song.
"We better not run into Philly, cause if we do [expletive] gon get sticky,” McCain said in the song. "I can’t believe they gave me up. It’s cool, I’m gonna show them what’s up."
McCain spent a total of two seasons with the 76ers, though much of his time spent in Philadelphia was sidelined due to injury. The former first-round pick tore his meniscus during what was shaping up to be an impressive rookie campaign, one where he averaged 15.3 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds on 46% from the field and 38% from behind the arc.
However, he struggled to regain that same form in his second season, as his shooting efficiency dipped and production declined. Prior to being moved at the trade deadline, McCain's numbers would take a significant dip, where he is averaging 6.6 points on 38% shooting from the field and 37% from three-point range.
McCain made his Thunder debut on Feb. 7 in a Thunder matchup against the Houston Rockets. After a slow start, the second-year guard has wasted no time getting to work, slowly finding his rhythm. He posted 12 points, four rebounds, and two steals against the Phoenix Suns, then followed that up with 13 points, three rebounds, and two assists in the Thunder's loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.
If his early performances with the Thunder combined with the lyrics in his song are any indication, it appears that McCain took things personally following the 76ers trade that sent him to Oklahoma City.
