The new-look Philadelphia 76ers are about to change the minds of many, as they will be working together to do what is needed to win.
The selflessness of the Philadelphia 76ers is a very telling sign.
Jaylen Brown spoke at his press conference and detailed that this isn’t just one man’s team.
“To win, you’ve got to be able to sacrifice; you’ve got to be able to have communication,” Brown said.
It’s very encouraging when you see your new star saying all the right things. Brown has always been one to put the team first. Even in his time with the Boston Celtics, he would dismiss any controversy that arose surrounding him and Jayson Tatum. It’s that type of move that makes him a great fit for what they’re trying to do in Philadelphia.
When you’re sharing the court with players the likes of LeBron James and Joel Embiid, you have to concede a bit. It’s not to say that one player isn’t enough, but sometimes that seniority takes precedence. It’s going to be an adjustment for everyone involved. Take Tyrese Maxey; this is a guy who had the ball in his hand every night. Now with James on the court, he’s reportedly playing the point guard position. This means Maxey is going to have to work without the ball in his hands. It could be a new wrinkle in his game.
For Brown, he’s used to having to share. It’ll be interesting to see what he can do when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands all the time. This will be different as he’s never played with a big man like Embiid. The big guy commands attention. If he’s getting double-teamed, then that leaves an open man. See, there are just too many weapons for one team to cover effectively.
If you play with a selfish mindset, it’s going to be impossible to achieve team goals. We all know what the end goal is: an NBA Championship.
Then there’s VJ Edgecombe. Another young guy who has a chance to grow and learn. It could hurt him a bit, as he won’t see the ball quite as often, but what it would create is mental toughness. This could come in very handy as the NBA is a rollercoaster ride and there will be moments that challenge a player’s mental fortitude.
When it comes to the playoffs, everyone is going to have to be on the same page, and with a team like this having to share the ball, it’ll be a hurdle they’ve already cleared.
