The 76ers took care of business securing a 124-114 win over the Pelicans.

The Philadelphia 76ers (27-21) closed out the month of January on a high note, picking up a 124-114 win over Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans (13-38).

The Sixers were without forward Paul George, who began a 25-game suspension, but Philadelphia still delivered a strong team performance.

Here are four takeaways from the game:

1. Joel Embiid Continues Sustained Excellence

Joel Embiid continued his dominant stretch with another big-time performance. The 76ers' star center led all scorers, dropping a season-high 40 points while adding 11 rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and a steal. Embiid set the tone early, consistently going to work on Pelicans' Derik Queen anytime he matched up against him.

He has been impressive throughout January, proving that he remains the offensive cornerstone for the 76ers.

2. Sixers Protect Home Court

Saturday's victory marked the Sixers' third straight win at home. Completed a three-game homestand that included victories over the Sacramento Kings and the Giannis Antetokounmpo-less Bucks. The team would look to carry that momentum on the road when they face a feisty Clippers squad.

3. Saddiq Bey Keeps it Close

The Pelicans didn't get much from their stars like Trey Murphy III and Williamson. Despite the loss, the Pelicans received a stellar performance from Saddiq Bey. The forward poured in 34 points to help the Pelicans stay within striking distance for most of the night. It's another great performance from the forward, who recently had 34 points in the Pelicans matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies.

It's also worth noting Bey has been mentioned as a potential trade target for the 76ers leading up to the Feb. 5 deadline.

4. Role Players Step Up In A Major Way

Along with Embiid's 40-point performance, the 76ers had key contributions from their supporting cast. Tyrese Maxey scored 18 points, five rebounds, eight assists, and a steal. VJ Edgecombe scored 15 points, three rebounds, and five assists. Kelly Oubre had recorded 19 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists. Jared McCain scored 12 points from the bench.

The 76ers' next game is Monday night against the Los Angeles Clippers (22-25).
