Everyone seems to be busy working out and preparing for the season. Joel Embiid is conveniently missing, so could this be the start of something more?
There’s a new sheriff in Philadelphia. The Philadelphia 76ers have been seen working out together all throughout the offseason. The only issue is Joel Embiid hasn’t been seen at a single workout. This has led many to wonder where the seven-time All-Star has been.
Reports have been circulating that Embiid has lost some weight and has been in the best shape of his career. If that is the case, why hasn’t he been to any of their workouts?
It’s very puzzling when Embiid is expected to be a big part of what this team wants to do in terms of having a successful season. News flash: just because he hasn’t been seen in the videos doesn't mean he hasn't been putting in work for the season.
Embiid has been seen at the Philadelphia practice facility and has been working with their trainers. Let’s be honest, besides Jaylen Brown, Embiid has practiced with everyone else in some capacity. Remember, James and Embiid won a gold medal together with Team USA. So, there’s some familiarity between the two.
However, that still doesn’t mean there will be some cons to this. Being in shape does not take away from the fact that you need to have some type of chemistry before the season starts. So, fans should expect there to be some miscommunication early on. But that's what the practices are for, right? The franchise hinges on Embiid, and it’s no question he can work with anyone around him.
This is the first offseason that Embiid has been healthy in quite some time. So he's used to gearing up for the season by himself. Even though he isn’t practicing with the others, his production will still be there, and that’s what they need more than anything. The best ability is availability, and we know Embiid has struggled with that.
Even so, there's no denying what he brings when he’s on the floor. He can still average over 20 points and protect the rim. Besides, even if he doesn’t work out with them now, it doesn’t mean he can’t learn on the fly. This is a guy who didn’t play ball until he was 16, so the fans should relax and breathe a sigh of relief that he’s even healthy for this year.
Embiid and the 76ers will get it together and make sure to work together when the time comes.
