Rich Paul, the agent of LeBron James, spoke about the possibility of James joining the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason.
The Philadelphia 76ers are a serious contender to sign ex-Los Angeles Lakers forward and free agent LeBron James after trading for Jaylen Brown.
Insiders have been linking James to Philadelphia for a few days, but now the 22-time All-Star's agent, Rich Paul, is breaking silence on the rumors.
Paul shared that the 76ers do indeed have the attention of James at this point.
"Philadelphia, everything changed," Paul said on 'Game Over.' "How could you not have the attention when you have [Tyrese] Maxey, [V.J.] Edgecombe, Brown, [Joel] Embiid? So, think about it: he loves Maxey, so we don't even have to talk about that. I think V.J., he helps V.J. understand really how to play the game."
Paul continued, "[He's] super talented, plays both ends of the floor, plays hard every night. The benefit that he gets, I mean, it would be ridiculous. Obviously Jaylen Brown... He [James] enhances everything, he unlocks everything there."
The 76ers already vaulted themselves among title favorites by trading for Brown, so imagine what landing James would do to their championship odds. A starting five of Maxey, Edgecombe, Brown, James, and Embiid would overpower every other five-man lineup across the league.
The blend of scoring, defensive prowess, playmaking, rebounding, and athleticism would simply be unmatched by any team.
James seems more than willing to take a serious pay cut in order to compete to hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy, meaning the Sixers' lack of cap space should not be an issue. Philadelphia, as it stands, has one open roster spot and enough to offer a minimum contract to sign a player.
James also has plenty of connections to Philadelphia. Whether it's the 2018 signing rumors, his relationship with Maxey and President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey, or being Olympic teammates with Embiid, the ties are certainly there.
The Gansey era in Philadelphia is off to a flaming hot start, and acquiring James would push them over the top.
