NBA champion forward P.J. Tucker believes the Boston Celtics won the trade that sent out Jaylen Brown.
Most would agree the Philadelphia 76ers walked away as clear winners of the Jaylen Brown-Paul George blockbuster trade.
However, NBA champion P.J. Tucker believes differently. He claims George arguably outplayed Brown in last year's postseason, thus making the Boston Celtics the true winner of the major deal.
"If you look at the playoff series this year. PG might have had a better series than JB," Tucker said on the Club 520 Podcast. "So, how does Philly win? I think it’s tough. I’m rocking with PG."
Tucker continued, "Like, I’m hating how everybody I mean, respect to JB, but PG is still a hell of a player. If PG don’t get suspended and all that stuff don’t happen, then I think we having another conversation…. I’m still liking JT and PG in a series. I like the Celtics, bro."
The only argument that can be made in favor of the Celtics is in terms of how each player will fit with their new organization. George's defense, secondary scoring, and veteran leadership will mesh perfectly on a Celtics team led by coach Joe Mazzulla.
Alternatively, there are concerns about how Brown will fit alongside the rest of Philadelphia's stars. There are a lot of mouths to feed on the 76ers' roster, especially if they land LeBron James, so some are worried the five-time All-Star could become disgruntled as time progresses.
Other than that, though, the Sixers clearly hit a home run by acquiring Brown.
He is roughly seven years younger than George, an NBA Finals MVP, a two-way player, an All-NBA wing, and more. Not to mention, he is not even age 30 yet.
Tucker does highlight an interesting point few are mentioning, however. Which is the Celtics will still be competitive in the Eastern Conference with a core of a healthy Jayson Tatum, Derrick White, George, and others.
To take it a step further and argue Boston won the trade is tough to support.
