As the Philadelphia 76ers march towards the NBA All-Star break and the remainder of the 2025-26 NBA season, the team will likely look to fill additional holes on the roster through the buyout market.
The Sixers, who hold a 30-23 record ahead of their matchup against Eastern Conference rival New York Knicks, could be looking to bolster their roster with additional players as they try to navigate the stretch run of the season.
One notable name the 76ers could consider is veteran forward Khris Middleton, who is currently on the Dallas Mavericks roster. The Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey named him as a buyout candidate for the Sixers.
As things currently stand, there is no indication that the Mavericks are planning to buy out Middleton's contract. The former three-time All-Star told Mike Curtis of the Dallas Morning News that he hasn’t had any ongoing conversations with the organization.
“Nah. Not yet. We haven’t got to that point. Don’t know that we will, but my focus right now is just playing basketball,” Middleton said.
Still, given the franchise's focus on building around No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg, it could leave the door open to a possible buyout. If Dallas decides to move in a different direction, Middleton potentially could emerge as a buyout candidate, making him a target for teams like the 76ers.
Middleton was traded to the Washington Wizards last season after a legendary stint with the Milwaukee Bucks, where he played a key role in helping the franchise secure its first NBA Championship since 1971. He was later dealt to Dallas as part of a deal that sent Anthony Davis to the Wizards.
Although Middleton may not be the effective scorer he was during his prime, he has shown he can still be a productive contributor late in his career throughout his time in Washington, D.C.
He has shown flashes of strong play, proving he could still produce something of value to an NBA team that is looking to compete.
If bought out and picked up by the 76ers, Middleton would add another veteran presence to the roster while serving as an additional scoring option next to Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid.
