The final stretch of the 2025-26 NBA regular season is nearing, and for the Philadelphia 76ers, that means opportunity.
With the playoffs approaching, the 76ers are looking to close out the season on a high note and solidify themselves as a legitimate force in the Eastern Conference. The team has battled inconsistencies and injuries throughout the year; however, people around the league believe that the 76ers remain one of the most dangerous and unpredictable teams in the postseason picture.
The Sixers received high praise from around the league, with one assistant coach labeling them the ultimate postseason wild card.
"They are the wild card to me," the assistant coach said. "They could easily lose 4-0 in Round 1, but if they are healthy, Embiid and Maxey are hard matchups for any of these teams," via ESPN.
Health has been a major question for the 76ers. When fully available, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey have shown to be one of the most dynamic duos in the league, capable of shifting any playoff series; however, Embiid's health has been a concern throughout most of the season.
Still around the NBA, no one can deny the Sixers; one Western Conference executive echoed the message of the assistant coach, emphasizing their firepower and upside.
"With the firepower they have, they deserve a mention," the West executive said. "Maxey is awesome, and I could see in a series he gets hot and Embiid has it going, and it presents a big-time mismatch. That's a different element than anyone else has, and while they are a distant fifth, it's why I also can't totally rule them out."
The 76ers are currently 33-27, following their loss to the Boston Celtics. They're firmly in the postseason mix as the No. 6 seed, with a two-game lead over the Orlando Magic, who are the No. 7 seed.
Suppose the 76ers can lock down their spot in the standings and enter the playoffs healthy. They have the talent to challenge any of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. The question is health, and consistency will align at the right time.
