Phoenix Suns star forward Dillon Brooks made a bold claim regarding the suspension of Philadelphia 76ers' Paul George.
One of the biggest stories across the entire NBA in recent weeks is the suspension of Philadelphia 76ers star forward Paul George.
Soon after the suspension was announced, George made a statement to ESPN regarding the punishment. He claimed to have made the mistake of taking "improper medication" for his mental health, but some in the NBA world aren't buying this.
This includes Phoenix Suns star Dillon Brooks, who is in the midst of a career year. On a livestream with famous creator "N3on," Brooks made his feelings clear on George's suspension.
"That’s PEs though. It was looking like it, though," Brooks said. "…He didn’t move good, then all of a sudden he’s [expletive] cashing down threes and looking like himself [from] 4 years ago. I guarantee he’ll be on there [his podcast] explaining his story, saying what happened.”
The game Brooks is referencing took place on Jan. 27 between the 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks. In the 139-122 victory for Philadelphia, George had arguably his best performance of the season, recording 32 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals on 52.4% shooting and 9 of 15 shooting from three-point range.
Brooks is one of the most outspoken and biggest trash-talkers in the league, so it's no surprise he came out with such a bold take regarding the suspension. As previously mentioned, Brooks is having the best campaign of his career, averaging 21.1 points on 44.6% shooting in 44 appearances for the Suns.
Brooks isn't the only one suspicious of George's claim, as NBA legend Charles Barkley described the situation as "fishy."
"There's something fishy going on here," Barkley said on ESPN Tip-Off. "Now I don't joke around about mental health, but if you're taking something for mental health, that's got to be an outlier to the NBA. Like my girl Judge Judy says, 'If it doesn't make sense to me, it don't make sense.'"
Barkley continued, "I like Paul George… but if you're taking something for mental health, even if it's on a list, you should get a hall pass. There's never a good reason to take performance-enhancing drugs, but if you're taking a drug for your mental health, you should get a hall pass. This sounds fishy."
Whether or not George decides to explain himself further than his comment to ESPN remains to be seen.
