If the San Antonio Spurs decide it's time to trade De'Aaron Fox, the Philadelphia 76ers could potentially get involved.
The Philadelphia 76ers should not be overly aggressive in attempting to trade star forward Paul George.
However, if the right opportunity presents itself, ridding the roster of the last two seasons of his four-year, $211 contract is a smart move. This will bring the front office a step closer to being able to construct the roster around the star backcourt duo of Tyrese Maxey and V.J. Edgecombe.
PhillyVoice's Adam Aaronson proposed a three-team blockbuster trade between the 76ers, San Antonio Spurs, and Miami Heat. The full proposed trade details are as follows:
76ers receive: Andrew Wiggins, Davion Mitchell OR Nikola Jovic
Heat receive: De'Aaron Fox
Spurs receive: Paul George
Philadelphia is easily landing the least amount of talent in this scenario, but that's not necessarily a negative.
Wiggins and Mitchell are entering the final season of their deals, so that would be the ideal return for the 76ers. Meanwhile, Jovic begins a four-year, $62 million extension next season, making him an unintriguing return piece for Philadelphia.
Not only are the contracts of Wiggins and Mitchell much cleaner than George's, but both could make significant contributions to the Sixers' rotation next season. Wiggins, an All-Star and NBA champion, comes with experience, efficient scoring, and solid defense. Mitchell is a lockdown perimeter defender who could contribute to Philadelphia's second unit behind Tyrese Maxey and V.J. Edgecombe.
For the Heat, this trade only makes sense if they miss out on Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. Think of landing Fox as a backup plan for Miami. Coach Erik Spoelstra would have a 'Big Three' of Fox, Tyler Herro, and Bam Adebayo to work with entering next year.
San Antonio would officially commit to the backcourt of Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle by making this move, which is a smart decision. Harper proved he's already capable of taking over the starting job.
Not to mention, George can add another element to the Spurs' rotation on both ends of the floor, offering on-ball creation and strong defensive leadership.
