The Philadelphia 76ers can't catch a break when it comes to injuries, as Tyrese Maxey is set to miss an extended period of time.

The Philadelphia 76ers' run of bad luck appears to be continuing this season.

Just hours before their matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies, the 76ers have announced that two-time All-Star point guard Tyrese Maxey has suffered a tendon injury in his pinky finger on his right hand.

Shams Charania of ESPN was first to report the news

Maxey is expected to miss approximately three weeks before being reevaluated, the team announced.

The injury occurred when Maxey collided with teammate Adem Bona during the 76ers' 125-116 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday.

It's a tough blow for a 76ers team that is already dealing with injuries to key players, most notably 2023 MVP Joel Embiid, who is out due to a right oblique strain.

Rookie V.J. Edgecombe was dealing with back issues but returned to action against the Grizzlies. Veteran forward Paul George is also serving a 25-game suspension, leaving the 76ers shorthanded.

Maxey was in the midst of a career year, averaging 29.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists while shooting 46.1%. His breakout campaign also earned him his first All-Star starter selection and saw him become the team's leading scorer this season.

Now they will have to look elsewhere for offensive production in the absence of a number of their stars on the roster.

The 76ers have a record of 35-30 following their victory over the Grizzlies on Tuesday. The team has fallen out of the NBA playoff picture and into NBA Play-In territory as the No. 8 seed. The team is fighting to keep its postseason hopes afloat after going 2-5 in its last seven games.

As the final weeks of the 2025-26 NBA season approach, the team hopes to stay in the postseason contention. Now they’ll have to navigate the final stretch without their franchise cornerstone leading the way.
