The Philadelphia 76ers have a rising superstar in point guard Tyrese Maxey.
Maxey is in the midst of a spectacular season for the 76ers, blossoming into a bona fide superstar. His spectacular play this season hasn't gone unnoticed. Maxey earned an All-Star starter nod earlier this season and continues to receive more recognition for his performance.
Bleacher Report recently listed the best players at every age in the NBA, naming Maxey as the best player at the age of 25.
"Relative to the player Tyrese Maxey has become, he doesn't face much competition in the 25-year-old division. Deni Avdija and the idea of Zion Williamson are his closest rivals,” B/R's Dan Favale wrote.
The article continued, "Maxey's career arc continues to be an exercise in dispelling concerns. Issues such as "Can he shoot?" were answered early and definitively. The matter of "Does he need a superstar buffer?" has taken a little longer to resolve, but no longer faces much push-back.”
They also highlighted the growth in Maxey's skillset: "Blazing speed is now packaged with sudden, controlled changes in pace. A more varied cadence has streamlined his development into an every-level scorer, with a three-point arsenal that scales to spot-up, pull-up, and even step-back jumpers."
“More attention should be paid to his knack for forging chemistry with anyone and everyone. It doesn't matter whether it's James Harden, Joel Embiid, or VJ Edgecombe. Maxey is a universal complement capable of shouldering a center-stage workload. Case in point: The Philadelphia 76ers have won the minutes he's logged this season without Embiid and Paul George," Favale concluded.
There is no doubt that Maxey has proven that he is one of the NBA's brightest stars. So far this season he's broken out as the leading scorer on an already talented 76ers team.
The two-time All-Star is averaging 29.0 points, 6.7 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting 46.1% from the field and, more importantly, has continued to elevate his game and establish himself as the centerpiece of the 76ers offense.
