The Philadelphia 76ers could be in jeopardy of losing a key part of their backcourt in Quentin Grimes this offseason.

The Philadelphia 76ers' decision to trade away Jared McCain signaled a desire to retain another piece of their backcourt.

That guard is Quentin Grimes, who is set to hit free agency this offseason after signing the qualifying offer for the 2025-2026 season. Because the 76ers and Grimes were unable to come to terms on a long-term contract last offseason, Bleacher Report has named him as Philadelphia's biggest flight risk.

"After making it through restricted free agency without signing an offer sheet elsewhere, Quentin Grimes came back to the Philadelphia 76ers to play out 2025-26 and become an unrestricted free agent this summer," B/R's Andy Bailey wrote. "With those dynamics in place, this entire season has felt like a waiting game for both the player and the team. His departure this coming offseason almost feels inevitable."

Grimes arrived in Philadelphia at last year's trade deadline in a deal between the 76ers and Dallas Mavericks. It didn't take long for him to fit in with the Sixers, as he averaged 21.9 points in 28 appearances for them last season.

His numbers have dropped quite a bit this year, but he is still a productive piece of the 76ers' second unit. He is averaging 12.8 points, 3.6 assists, and 3.6 rebounds on 44.3% shooting and 35% shooting from three-point range in 51 games played.

It's worth noting Grimes is seeing a similar number of minutes this season compared to last, as he played 33.7 in the 2024-2025 campaign compared to 29.7 this season.

The 76ers cannot afford to lose Grimes this summer after dealing McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder. This would leave only Tyrese Maxey and V.J. Edgecombe under contract in the backcourt entering the 2026-2027 season.

Plenty of teams can offer Grimes a lucrative contract as well as a starting role, so he needs to have a desire to remain in Philadelphia if the 76ers want a chance at keeping him around.
