To optimize a star-studded core, the Philadelphia 76ers must prioritize low-usage role players. These three players offer the chemistry and financial flexibility necessary for a deep postseason run.
The Philadelphia 76ers already have enough star power.
With Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, and VJ Edgecombe in place, Philadelphia has a roster loaded with players who are at their best when they can touch the ball, attack mismatches, and create advantages. That gives the Sixers real star power, but it also creates a roster that you have to build around properly.
That means their next trade target should not be a major name. It should not be another high-usage scorer. The Sixers need cheaper players who can space the floor, defend, make quick decisions, and keep the offense from becoming too crowded.
Here are three under-the-radar names that would make sense:
A.J. Green
Green is the cleanest shooting target of the group.
The Milwaukee Bucks guard does not need many dribbles to matter. That is exactly why he would fit in Philadelphia. Green can run off movement, spot up on the weak side, and punish defenses for loading up on Embiid, Maxey, or Brown.
If Embiid draws two defenders, Green can be ready. If Maxey gets into the paint, Green can spot up in the corner. If Brown attacks downhill, Green can keep his defender from helping too aggressively. He would not fix every issue, but he would give Philadelphia a real shooter who understands how to play without hijacking possessions.
The question is cost.
Green is not a star, but teams value shooting. Milwaukee would not have to give him away. Still, if the Bucks are committed to a serious rebuild, Philadelphia should at least pick up the phone.
Pelle Larsson
Larsson is the kind of glue guy that every team needs.
He can handle a little, pass a little, defend with effort, and play within a role. Having a player that can fit a variety of roles and adapt to multiple situations will make Philadelphia far less predictable come playoff time.
He is not the kind of player who needs a lot of shots to make an impact. He can cut, keep the ball moving, and make the simple play. The Sixers need players who are comfortable making the right play instead of the flashy one.
The Miami Heat may not want to move him, especially on such a cheap deal. But that is why he should be on Philadelphia’s radar. Good teams find value before it becomes expensive.
Ochai Agbaji
Agbaji would be more of a buy-low swing.
The appeal is the frame, athleticism, and theoretical three-and-D fit. He has not fully settled into a consistent NBA role, but the tools are still worth exploring. For Philadelphia, the idea would be a simple one: give him a small job and see if he can grow into it.
Agbaji would not need to create offense. He would need to run the floor, defend wings, take open threes, and play with energy, if he excels at that, then his role and impact on the team could expand.
Regardless of who Philadelphia trades for, they can't afford to chase perfect players.
They need affordable players who make sense around the expensive ones.
Green, Larsson, and Agbaji are not household names.
That is the point.
Philadelphia already has the headline names. Now it needs the pieces that make the basketball work.
