The Philadelphia 76ers could make a risky addition by signing two-time All-Star guard Victor Oladipo.
The Philadelphia 76ers are in desperate need of another guard.
As it stands, stars Tyrese Maxey and V.J. Edgecombe, along with rookie Labaron Philon Jr., are the only backcourt players under contract for Philadelphia. Instead of taking a traditional route to fill this void, such as signing a free agent or making a trade, the 76ers could get creative.
Two-time All-Star guard Victor Oladipo, who is currently out of the NBA, took to social media on Wednesday to plead his case of why he should be back in the NBA.
"I’m a free agent. I don’t have an agent right now just me and my family. I know I have a lot left, and I genuinely love this game," Oladipo wrote. "I’d rather show you I’m ready than spend my time trying to explain why or flood you with analytics to prove it."
Oladipo continued, "If you’re about winning, value mentorship, and think there could be a fit, you can reach me directly. I’m open to every opportunity right now—I just want to make sure I weigh each one carefully. I can’t wait to share my story."
This would be a high-risk, high-reward decision by the 76ers' new-look front office.
The last time Oladipo suited up for an NBA team was in the 2022-2023 season, when he played in 42 games for the Miami Heat. He was still a productive contributor at that point, averaging 10.7 points, 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.4 steals.
He contributed at a solid level on both ends of the floor that season, but it's worth noting his efficiency was lackluster.
If 76ers coach Nick Nurse can find that level of production in Oladipo, it'd be a massive win for Philadelphia. Chances are President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey won't make a move so risky so soon, but crazier moves have happened in the modern NBA.
Oladipo's style of play and position fit what the 76ers are seeking, it's just a matter of whether the Sixers want to give him an opportunity to prove himself again.
