For the better part of a year, fans have been subjected to trade rumors involving Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The saga seems likely to end within the next month or two, perhaps as early as the upcoming NBA draft.
While rumors swirled last offseason, they really began to heat up leading into the NBA trade deadline, with teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves, Golden State Warriors, and Miami Heat reportedly in pursuit of the former MVP.
The Milwaukee Bucks held onto their franchise superstar, but the relationship didn't get better after the deadline, and now both sides seem destined to go their separate ways for the betterment of each party.
Bobby Portis Weighs In
Bobby Portis is the longest tenured teammate of Giannis, having been with the Bucks since 2020 when he signed as a free agent. He's experienced the highs of winning a championship alongside Giannis and the lows of this past season when the team outright missed the playoffs.
Appearing on FanDuel's Run In Back, Portis was asked about the ongoing rumors.
"I talk to bro every week, every other week, we always check in. That's like my real friend. It's been going around the league and rumors have been spreading since I got on the Bucks. I've been hearing about Giannis rumors and trades for six years. I don't know what's going to happen," he said.
Portis said that you can only control what you can control, and that he's going to continue to stay ready.
Portis Moving With Giannis?
A recent report indicated that Portis would be moved with Giannis in any potential deal.
Asked about that possibility, Portis replied, "It's hard not to see it because I'm on social media. Some people capping like, 'I don't see it. I'm not on social media.' That's cap. We all get on there. It doesn't bother me. If I was a second, third, fourth year guy trying to figure out my role, I'd be asking what's going on. I'm going on my 12th year. I'm at peace."
Portis said he's just trying to get better every day, and that is what he's focused on.
Portis has shown that he can still contribute to a winning team, especially coming off the bench. He is not only a valued voice in the locker room, but acquiring him alongside Giannis could make the transition for Giannis to a new team much easier, having a real friend around.
