The Milwaukee Bucks seem headed for big changes in the offseason as they appear likely to trade franchise superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Giannis was drafted by the Bucks with the 15th pick in 2013 and has transformed into one of the best players over the last decade. He led the Bucks to a championship in 2021 and has been a huge reason why they've remained competitive over the last ten years.
For the first time since 2015-2016, the Bucks failed to make the playoffs this past season, thanks in part to injuries that limited Giannis to just 36 games, the lowest mark of his career.
After a disappointing season that has put them further away from a championship, both sides appear ready to move on.
Moving on from Giannis
Giannis will be 32 in December, and though he's still one of the most impactful players on the court, his production did slip this past season.
It's tough to judge him in only 36 games next to a team that he wasn't able to build much chemistry with, but his points per game was the lowest since 2017-18, his rebounds were the lowest since 2016-17, and his assists were the lowest since 2017-18.
Perhaps the most concerning number was his field goal attempts, which was at 16.6 per game, his lowest number since 2016-17.
Simply put, Giannis was not the force of nature that fans have grown accustomed to this past season.
Injuries and roster construction play a part in both of those things, but Giannis is going to be judged as an individual who looked like he lost a step, and his place in the top five is questioned.
Bobby Portis Speaks
Appearing on FanDuel's Run It Back, Milwaukee veteran Bobby Portis was asked for a response to people who think Giannis is past his prime.
"Giannis hasn't played in the last couple of years to the full extent. We haven't seen heavy doses of him in the playoffs. He got hurt in the playoffs the last couple of seasons. I don't think he's past his prime. He still has a lot left in the tank. He can get to a team and impact winning. I'm excited for what's to come," said Portis.
Portis said that fans like to fall in love with the young players and that he likes that everyone is counting out his team, believing they have a great group of guys who will continue to work hard.
