The Bucks are starting to see fewer teams be interested in acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo.
One of the Milwaukee Bucks' goals in the offseason is to move off star forward and former Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. Antetokounmpo, 31, requested a trade from the Bucks in January and has been working with the franchise to find a partner to move him elsewhere.
Earlier this offseason, Shams Charania reported that a deal involving Giannis could be resolved before the start of the 2026 NBA Draft. Several teams were involved early in negotiations, but much of the talk has died down, likely because of what Milwaukee is asking for in return of Antetokounmpo.
NBA insider Jake Fischer reports that the two main candidates to land Giannis are the Portland Trail Blazers and the Miami Heat.
Sam Navarro-Imagn Images"Minnesota and Golden State were both prominent Antetokounmpo suitors in February when the Bucks briefly invited trade interest in their Face of the Franchise, but sources say neither team has factored into the Bucks' recent trade talks," Fischer reported.
"I also continued to hear that there hasn't been any significant recent dialogue between the Magic and Bucks."
Why Are Teams Backing Out of Giannis Trade Talks?
There's no question that Antetokounmpo could still be a premier player on a playoff team, but injury concerns and age raise a big question mark when teams consider trading for him.
In 2025-2026, he played just 37 games, with some drama surrounding the idea that he may not have even been hurt the entire time. He is also 31 years old, and while there are several up-and-coming teams that could use him to take a next step as a franchise, injury concerns and age make them think twice about a trade.
Michael McLoone-Imagn ImagesAntetokounmpo also has an injury history in the postseason with the Bucks. He missed much of the 2024 playoffs with a calf injury, and he missed some time in 2023 when Miami went on its run to the Finals.
Milwaukee is likely asking for multiple first-round picks, as well as younger players to build around, and while it makes sense for the Bucks to get as much value out of a top player like Giannis, certain factors hold them back from getting the desired value.
Giannis is also not a truly reliable three-point shooter. His career percentage sits at a low 28.5. Many teams in the NBA are looking for players who can shoot the ball and provide spacing. Antetokounmpo has a dominant inside game that makes up for the lack of shooting, but that may not fit every coach's philosophy.
Jeff Hanisch-Imagn ImagesMilwaukee will continue to pursue finding potential trade partners, but its options are dwindling as we approach the NBA Draft.
