The New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks have been consistent names near the top of the Eastern Conference standings over the past three seasons. However, early in the 2025-26 season, the Bucks enter Friday's NBA slate four games back of the Knicks, as it's a tight race near the top of the standings.
Early in the season, both teams have seen their fair share of injuries, including to star players like Jalen Brunson and Giannis Antetokounmpo. For Friday's bout between the two sides, the Knicks will be without two of their key players, as the Bucks await a final status on their star.
Entering Friday's contest on a six-game losing streak, four Bucks players are listed on the injury report. While Alex Antetokounmpo (G League), Kevin Porter Jr. (knee), and Taurean Prince (neck) remain OUT as they've been for the majority of the season, two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo (adductor) is listed as QUESTIONABLE.
Giannis has missed the past four games for the Bucks, and the team holds a 1-5 record this season in games without their. Given the lone win was the first game he was sidelined this season, the Bucks have lost their past five games without their star.
Given Giannis is averaging 31.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 6.8 assists this season on 62.9% shooting from the field, getting him back on the court is essential for the Bucks to be able to compete game-in, game-out.
As for Porter Jr., he's tracking to return in the near future, as he was recently recalled from the team's G League affiliate. While Ryan Rollins has the starting point guard position locked in, Porter Jr. should bring some high-volume scoring off the bench, as Cole Anthony has struggled this season to be that consistent perimeter scoring option for them.
Looking over at the Knicks, OG Anunoby (hamstring) and Landry Shamet (shoulder) are both ruled OUT. While Anunoby should return sooner than Shamet, both players have been key to the team's success this season.
With Anunoby being a two-way star and Shamet being a knockdown shooter, the Knicks' depth continues to be stretched thin with those two sidelined.
Friday's contest will be played at Madison Square Garden, meaning the Bucks' chances will be slim if Giannis is unable to suit up. New York holds an 8-1 record there this season, with their lone loss coming from the Orlando Magic.
Tip-off in New York City is set for 7:30 p.m. EST, as the Bucks look to put an end to their six-game losing streak.
