The Milwaukee Bucks tried to set themselves up for the future in the offseason when their hand was forced, and they had to trade Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Despite a lack of leverage with Giannis only wanting to play for certain teams, and Milwaukee trying to do right by their superstar, the team managed to get a number of young players and draft picks from the Miami Heat.

Overall, the Bucks obtained Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakučionis, the 13th overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, which was used to select Nate Ament, first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, a pick swap in 2030, and a second-round pick in 2033.

Though they got younger and added a trove of draft picks, their future looks bleak according to insiders.

According to ESPN, Milwaukee has the third-worst future of any team in the league. They are ranked above the Los Angeles Clippers and Sacramento Kings. They are behind the Chicago Bulls and New Orleans Pelicans.

In the breakdown, Milwaukee is ranked 29th in players, 22nd in management, 18th in draft capital, fifth in money, and 27th in market.

The future only takes into account the next three years, and Milwaukee isn’t viewed as a contender in the next three years with its current roster. The Miami picks from the Giannis trade also aren’t taken into full account, as they are in 2031 and 2033.

They don’t have control of their own first-round picks from 2027 to 2030.

It’s tough to argue, though their young core might be a bit undervalued. Ryan Rollins, Bryan Burries, and Nate Ament all have high upside, but two of them haven’t played a game yet, and Rollins only has one proven season.

However, being a bad team and not having control of your draft picks is the worst spot to be in.

The Kings are the Kings, and the Clippers took a big hit in losing five first-round picks. The Bucks also have more young players than those two teams. You could argue they are in a better position than the Bulls, but you’d have to be higher on Burries, Ament, and Rollins than Caleb Wilson, Josh Giddey, and Matas Buzelis. You could also argue they are better than the Pelicans, who have a mismatched roster with no sure-fire star waiting in the wings.

Even if they don’t have the third-worst outlook over the next three years, they are in the bottom five.
