The Milwaukee Bucks quickly signed Cam Thomas after he was waived by the Brooklyn Nets.
In his Milwaukee debut against the Orlando Magic, Thomas had a rough outing, playing just 13 minutes and scoring four points on 1-5 shooting.
He responded on Wednesday, against the same Orlando Magic, scoring 34 points on 12-20 shooting and 4-6 from three.
After the game, Bucks head coach was asked about the microwave scoring ability of Thomas.
"It's unbelievable. I've had Jamal Crawford and Lou Williams. Now, I have Cam Thomas. Very similar," he said.
Rivers admitted they are all different in their own ways, but that Thomas wants to do right and play well.
"We're going to give him every opportunity. The guy is a natural scorer. You can see that," said Rivers.
The Bucks are a team that has lacked scoring punch throughout the season, even with Giannis Antetokounmpo on the floor.
For the season, the Bucks have an offensive rating of 113, which is 24th in the league. The number has gone up to 114.8 over the last eight games without Giannis, but that's helped by an overtime game against the New Orleans Pelicans and a strong offensive showing against the Chicago Bulls.
Without Giannis, the Bucks are reliant on Kevin Porter Jr and Ryan Rollins to jumpstart the offense. Neither player has been tasked with carrying an offense for long stretches during their respective careers.
Enter Cam Thomas, who is one of the purest scorers in the league.
Last season, Thomas averaged 24 points per game with the Brooklyn Nets on 43% shooting from the field and 34% from three.
His game was criticized for being one-dimensional as he looked to score first, second, and third, but he did that at a high level. He could put pressure on the rim, get to his spot at the second level, or pull up from three.
Crawford and Williams are two of the most revered sixth man microwave scorers in NBA history.
Crawford has three Sixth Man of the Year awards, winning two with Doc Rivers as his head coach, as a member of the Los Angeles Clippers.
Williams has three Sixth Man of the Year awards of his own, also winning two with the Clippers and Rivers.
In his four seasons with the Clippers, Williams averaged 19.1 points (his highest average on any team). His last season was under Ty Lue. Crawford spent five seasons on the Clippers, his first with Vinny Del Negro, and averaged 15.3 points, though he was in his mid-30s.
