Cam Thomas logged just six minutes of playing time against the Utah Jazz on Saturday, scoring three points and going 1-1 from three. He did miss two free throws.
Thomas checked in with 2:55 left in the first and was subbed out for Ousmane Dieng at 8:45 of the second. He did not return. Pete Nance saw his minutes extended with Thomas on the bench.
Thomas was a -8 in his six minutes of action. The Bucks ultimately won the game 113-99.
It was the lowest amount of minutes Thomas has logged since joining the team on February 9 after being waived by the Brooklyn Nets. His previous low was 11 minutes, two games ago against the Boston Celtics.
After the game, Bucks head coach Doc Rivers was asked about Thomas's lack of playing time.
"Tonight wasn't the night. We got a lot of guys that can play. Gary Trent played terrific in the first half for us. We haven't played him in a while. When you have a lot of guys that are close to about the same, you have to pick people and you have make your choices. Tonight, we went with Pete in the second half," said Doc.
Trent played six minutes against the Jazz after playing just eight minutes in the last three games combined. He finished with three points on 1-3 shooting from three, but was a +6.
Asked if playing Thomas less was part of "reigning him in," Rivers replied, "No, if you're playing well, you play. If not...defensively, you have to be good as well, then you don't play. I don't think anyone has a right of passage. We've told our guys after that Chicago loss, we're going to sit guys and move guys. Whoever plays right, that doesn't mean they play well, but if you play right, you're going to play."
The Bucks were thumped by the Chicago Bulls, 120-97, on March 1. The Bulls were on an eleven game losing streak going into the game, but used a 27-0 run at the end of the third quarter, going into the fourth, to hand the Bucks one of their worst losses of the season.
Thomas played 18 minutes against the Bulls, shooting 3-11 from the field for 15 points. He was a +2 in the contest.
Against the Knicks a game before, he was a -17 in 17 minutes and the game after against the Celtics, he was -18 in 11 minutes.
Thomas is one of the best offensive players in the league, but he has a defensive rating of 124.4 since joining the Bucks, and a net rating of -8.4.
